UPDATE (10) Saturday 3rd March 2018 – 9:45am

Good morning. With temperatures rising and much of the snow and ice thawing at present the decision has been made with advice from professional authorities that we will continue the onward journey from Bristol today. Once Redwoods coach company has been able to give us confirmation of pick up times we will be able to establish drop off times and locations. This will be communicated in further updates as soon as we can. Again we thank you for your continued patience, support and trust in our operations which has allowed us to make careful decisions at every point.

Friday 2nd March 2018 – 10:25am

Following comprehensive advice taken from professional sources such as Devon County Council and the police, who are recommending no non-essential travel at present, a decision has been made to keep the children safe and warm in their current location and we expect to stay an additional night. This decision stands at present and will be reviewed, although unlikely to change, at 1pm today. We recognise that you may find this challenging emotionally however in the interest of their safety, which is of paramount importance, we are confident in this decision. Thankyou for your support via messaging to date.
Children are being fed well and entertained by staff and continue to show exceptional behaviours and attitudes. We are grateful to parents, Cameron Tonkin and David Lynch, travelling with us who have provided additional resources from M and S and the morale around all those in the residential party.
We will continue to update you today early afternoon and later this evening. Please be reassured that your children are in confident and capable hands and staff are shift working to ensure that this continues to be the case.

Best wishes,

UPDATE(8)

Friday 2nd March 2018 – 13:27pm

Thank you for your continued patience with decisions and updates. We are sticking to our previous decision to keep the children safe and warm in the hotel for an additional night. The feedback from parents is overwhelmingly supportive and we thank you very much for this. The children have meals and activities provided and all their needs are being met by staff with the group. A further update will be added this evening and decisions about travel will be made as soon as we can tomorrow morning. Please allow time for us to make an informed and confident decision about this.

Best wishes,

UPDATE (9) Fri 2nd March 2018 – 19:19pm

Good evening. What fantastic children, staff and families we have when faced with challenging circumstances. Today the children were told about their additional night together and were ALL positive about this, many saying how they are glad they are safe. Staff have created a cinema room and provided quizzes for the children today. The tidiest room award has been awarded and each child has taken part in a ‘Pants Presentation’ (courtesy of M and S).
Hot meals have been enjoyed and children will get another good nights sleep in the Premier Inn, who too have been fantastic to the schools. You will be pleased to know that showers are being had too!
Tomorrow morning there will be a further conference call at 9am which will involve all necessary professionals in order to review next steps. We will update you as soon as we can but please continue to be patient as these decisions continue to be carefully considered. Here is a photo of the Pants Presentation’ this evening:

Thursday 1st March 2018
Our Y5 Group plan to get an earlier train at 10:03am or 11:03am for their return today. So arriving back at Tiverton earlier at 12:24pm or 13:24pm.
We will confirm the exact arrival time as soon as the children are on the train.

FURTHER UPDATE:

Thank you so much for your patience.

Following very careful consideration of all available information sources, and having taken external advice both from senior colleagues, an external specialist from Devon County Council and with the advice from the coach company, we have made a decision to bring the children back from London a little earlier than planned. The train station we had planned to use is closed due to a local issue (ice on the platform). Having checked the roads, which are clear, we will be travelling by coach back to Tiverton Parkway Train Station.

We are anticipating leaving London at 12:15pm which should ensure we arrive back at Tiverton Parkway before the weather has taken full impact. We will notify parents with a more accurate arrival time at around 2pm.

We will of course update you throughout the day if anything significant changes.

UPDATE(2)

Just to update you that the coach has now left London and will be stopping in Bristol at Gordano services to change drivers.
We will continue to review all available information and assess risk on an ongoing basis. We will not be taking risks regarding onward travel. If conditions worsen and further travel is unsafe we have a contingency plan for securing safe and warm accommodation.
Just to reassure parents that we have food and drink on board. All children are happy and have enjoyed their trip.

UPDATE(3)

Thursday 1st March – 13:53pm
The coach has had a clear run out of London. Currently on the M4 past Junction 6. The weather and roads are currently clear of snow and traffic is moderate. Children happy and warm. We will continue to update you as much as possible. Thank you for your continued support.

UPDATE(4)

Thurs 1st March 2018 – 15:57pm
The coach is continuing to travel currently at Delamere Services where roads continue to be clear. We have reservations in both Bristol and Taunton for overnight accommodation and food should it be required. We will update you as soon as we know any further information. The children continue to show excitement about their trip.

UPDATE(5)

Thurs 1st March 2018 – 17:25pm
The children have travelled along safe and clear roads until now. However due to the information we are receiving around further travel we have, as we said we would, terminated travel if we felt it would not be in the interest of continued safety. Therefore the children will be staying in The Premier Inn at Cribbs Causeway M5 Junction 17. We have secured a single corridor of rooms and a hot buffet for this evening followed by breakfast tomorrow. The children are in warm and safe accommodation for as long as is needed. We will update you later this evening once children are settled and fed. All children are showing exceptional behaviour and attitude and are enjoying the extended time together.

UPDATE(6)

Thursday 1st March 2018 – 20:27pm
Children have been fed and have rooms all organised. They are safe and happy and ready for a good sleep. We will update you in the morning by 10am. Thank you for all your positive feedback all day.
