Our children are encouraged to study history through investigative questions about people and events in the past, to enable them to improve their understanding of their lives today.
Through the teaching of history, we endeavour to teach children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
Children will develop a wide range of critical thinking skills. These skills will enable them to understand the contested nature of knowledge and to distinguish between historical fact and subjectivity, when reaching conclusions and making judgements about the past.
We have established a curriculum plan for history that is aspirational, chronologically sequenced, relevant, progressively challenging, inclusive, broad and balanced.
