Physical Education

Embrace Community   Be Curious     Show Respect    Believe in yourself

We want Physical Education to be active, fun and promote the values of fair play and respect whilst developing and applying fundamental skills in all learning opportunities. Our Learning is supported and enhanced through a range of curriculum sporting activities e.g. rugby, football, tennis, gymnastics, athletics, volleyball, and other outdoor adventurous activities. Our EYFS offer lays a strong foundation, focusing on fundamental movements, fine and gross motor skills.

PE at Hemyock, provides children with opportunities to be physically and mentally active both inside and outside of school, which in turn means we aim to promote long –term health and wellbeing.

We believe in promoting healthy eating and living and we support our children to make informed choices relating to health and wellbeing. This is alongside the offer of being physically active for two taught sessions per week. We work with outside agencies to provide specialist equipment and teaching as well as taking part in inter-school competitions organised and hosted by Uffculme Secondary School and Ventrus MAT.

We aspire to offer a wide range of clubs to further enhance our PE provision and our children are eager to attend after school clubs and competitive sporting events.

Implementation

In PE lessons you will see:

  • A skills-based approach to teaching and learning through a supportive ethos, whereby mistakes are seen as part of the learning process.
  • Planning that is progressive in skills.
  • Safe practice throughout.
  • ALL children being physically active.
  • A managed element of healthy competition.
  • The effective use of specialist equipment and apparatus, where appropriate.

Impact

Our aim is for children to understand the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle and to be fluent in the fundamentals of team games, catching, throwing, attacking, defending, winning, losing as well as developing skills in outdoor activities and to swim at least 25m competently. They progress well throughout each year group and meet National Curriculum objectives.
